Zanna, Don't!

When: Fri., Jan. 8, 6 p.m., Sat., Jan. 9, 7 p.m. and Jan. 12-14, 6 p.m. 2016

"You're a straight." Such a disparaging remark would get a celebrity in hot water if we lived in the same parallel universe where Zanna, Don't: A Musical Fairy Tale is set. Homosexuality is the status-quo and the heteros face all the scrutiny in this Midwestern town, where your all-American love story is flipped upside down — the captain of Heartsville High's football team falls for, get this, "the captain of the Girls' Intramural Mechanical Bull-Riding Team." If a storyline like that doesn't draw you in, perhaps the irony of the performance happening in Colorado Springs will, lest you forget our dark history as the birthplace of the "hate state" moniker after the passage of Amendment 2. Make your way to The Mezzanine (20 N. Tejon St., at 6 p.m. tonight through Thursday for the final performances; tickets cost $20; more info at — Craig Lemley

Price: $20
