ReLeaf: Spring 2012

Welcome, readers and readettes, to ReLeaf, our quarterly effort to keep you apprised of the various vagaries of the medical marijuana industry in the Pikes Peak region.

In the coming pages, you'll find descriptions of all the centers in the area with which we're familiar; stories about issues affecting patients and business owners alike; and a more general resources section in the back. Should you be seeking a new center convenient to home or work, we've divided our list of dispensaries by neighborhood as well.

So, recapping a little: In the last quarter we've found out that banking won't be solved by the state (see here for more); legislators will again attempt to institute a per-se limit on the amount of THC that can be present in a driver's blood (look for more on that in the coming weeks in our CannaBiz column); and the federal government feels less-than-friendly toward MMJ centers located within 1,000 feet of schools, the only limit it has imposed ... so far.

Meanwhile, the state Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division has temporarily transferred a group of employees because of unexpected budget difficulties. And the city has only processed a small amount of the licensing applications before it.

Par for the course in an industry that, at its core, is simply supposed to be about patients getting treatment.
