Wasting Yesterday

Wasting Yesterday

Listen CD release show Union Station, 2419 N. Union Blvd., 227-7168 Saturday, April 28, 9 p.m. $5 for 21-plus, $10 for 18- to 20-year-olds.

Don't let the piercings and tattoos fool you. Justin Little, vocalist for Wasting Yesterday, emphasizes that his band's music is listenable for everyone even his mother.

But the guys in Wasting Yesterday never planned to make a parent-friendly sound. Guitarist Jsin Elliott got his start playing anything from country to soul as a studio musician. For drummer Shawn Abbott, it was the same. Matt Young, bass player and youngest band member, was strictly hardcore.

"It's not that we all talked about what we wanted to do," says Elliott. "This is just what happened."

A solid metal foundation brings the band together, but from there it journeys from soul to funk and back again. Their new album, Listen, demonstrates this versatility.

But what the CD leaves out, Elliott says, is the feel of their live performances. With no predetermined set lists, these guys approach each show differently, feeding off the audience members and where they want the music to go.

"Expect a lot of energy," says Little. "You'll probably get sweated on."
