Van Halen

When: Thu., May 24 2012

Surprising as it is that David Lee Roth has gotten back with Van Halen for the band's best album in 28 years, the choice of Kool & the Gang as the reunion tour's opening act is also intriguing. Turns out Roth saw the venerable funk-soul brothers performing hits like "Celebration," "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging" at last year's Glastonbury Festival, after which the flamboyant frontman lobbied to bring them along for the ride. Given that bands like Dokken and Creed were tour-mates during the Sammy Hagar era, this is just one more incentive to go experience the real thing tonight at the Pepsi Center (1000 Chopper Circle, Denver, Tickets start at $49.50, with showtime at 7:30. — Bill Forman
