Urban Peak, a local nonprofit serving homeless youth, has been awarded two federal grants from the Family and Youth Services Bureau's Runaway and Homeless Youth program, housed in the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

One, totaling $453,000 over three years, will go toward basic shelter operation. It accounts for about 35 percent of the total dollars needed to run Urban Peak's 20-bed facility, which also offers employment, education and mental health services. The other, totaling $890,000 over five years, will fund a new transitional housing program to house youth ages 16 through 21 with support from staff and volunteers. Partners in that program will include Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust and Partners in Housing.
