Two Spirits

When: Thu., June 2, 6 & 8 p.m. 2011

In many ancient traditions, people embodying both male and female qualities were seen as gifted, even extraordinary. Fred Martinez, a Navajo boy from Cortez, Colo., was one such “two-spirited” person. Yet he was born in an era where being openly transgender is not widely accepted, and he was brutally murdered for it at 16. Several years after Fred’s death, Two Spirits was made, documenting Fred’s life and the history of two-spirited people. Tonight there are two chances to see this deeply affecting film (for free), at 6 and at 8 at CC’s Cornerstone Arts Center (825 N. Cascade Ave., — Edie Adelstein
