Merrill Garbus told a Salida audience in the summer of 2015 that her Connecticut project Tune-Yards would be taking a hiatus. Luckily for the fans of experimental dance, she broke the vacation in less than three years with the latest Tune-Yards studio offering. Tracks like “Look at Your Hands” from I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life show that nothing has been lost in exuberant polyrhythms or infectious layered vocal harmonies. In fact, her longtime composition collaborator Nate Brenner is now an active member of Tune-Yards, which gives the new album an additional vibrancy, if that’s even possible. Garbus may always keeps her politics front and center, but the new album is all about daring the listener to sit still.
