The Un-Scene

When: Feb. 5-26 2016

For the last three months, folks downtown might have seen local artist Chris Alvarez scuttling about, taking photos of this and that as part of a residency at The Machine Shop. His photos have resulted in 18 paintings, part of an exhibit titled The Un-Scene. It's his look at parts of the urban environment people often ignore, from crusty buskers and homeless people to alleys and trains. He's even painted a porta-potty. On his Facebook page, Alvarez pays homage to the late Ken Auster for inspiration, saying "Through his work I learned to find romance in the mundane." By appointment, The Machine Shop, 4 S. Wahsatch Ave., free, 359-6966, — Griffin Swartzell
