What's the most important thing you learned in high school? How to serenade young women and function successfully with the opposite sex.
What's your best high school memory?Cruising the Strip in Detroit in my Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, trying to pick up chicks.
How did you benefit from extracurricular activities? Meeting new people, building social skills. Developing as a young human being.
What is it that grownups just don't get about kids? They're too serious, too focused on responsibility and not enough on relaxing and enjoying themselves.
What is it that the kids just don't get? The ones I see are either overly responsible or way too
irresponsible. They lack balance.

What's the best thing high school taught you? How to survive all the pettiness and clique-ishness.
How did you benefit from extracurricular activities? I became a better writer by working for the school paper; I gained physical confidence participating in sports. I learned there's more to life than popularity and how you look.
What don't adults get about kids? We're frightened by how much energy and spirit they have, so we lock them down to keep them safe. But I think kids are better off when they tap into that spirit and energy.
What's your worst high school moment? Not lettering in hockey.
What's your best high school moment? Playing for the Minnesota state championship in hockey.
How were extracurricular activities valuable to you? They rounded out high school and made everything more fun. And we couldn't play unless we did well in school.
What don't adults get about kids? I didn't understand my parents as a kid, and I don't understand kids as an adult. I don't get their unwillingness to work and take on responsibility.
What is it that kids don't get? They think everything is going to be fun and just fine. But then they run into the hard work part of it.

What's your worst high school experience? Rod McGee never liked me back. Don't laugh -- it was heartbreaking.
What's your best high school memory? It was really exciting when we moved my sophomore year from a small town to a racially integrated inner-city high school.
What don't adults get about kids? How smart and complete they are by high school. They have a lot to say to us about a lot of things.
What don't kids get about adults? The soul doesn't age. They look at our bodies and think we're old, but they don't realize that inside we're still very young.
