- The Sleights debut their third EP, Fake News, June 9 at The Playing Field Sports Bar.
If you’re at all familiar with the local punk scene, The Sleights likely need little introduction. Comprising former members of The Right Aways, Secret Sauce, Murder Hat, The Proper Villains and Dave Mansfield’s The Röxy Suicide, they’ve quickly become one of the city’s more prominent punk rock entities. A little over a year after the band performed with The Queers on their last Colorado Springs stop (incidentally, The Queers will be returning to The Black Sheep July 11 with Reel Big Fish), the four-piece recently wrapped up a West Coast tour and will be debuting their third EP and first vinyl release, Fake News, with a show on June 9 at The Playing Field Sports Bar.
Joining the Sleights and their pop-punk-inspired approach are their recent tourmates, Salt Lake City-area punk acts Life Has a Way and Hi-Fi Murder, along with fellow locals Minus Well, Dead Wave and The Youthful Nothings.
Elsewhere, Denver-based hip-hop/rock act Flobots are one of the more successful groups to emerge from their home state — after all, their 2008 single “Handlebars” was featured on the 71st volume of the Now That’s What I Call Music! compilation. The band will be making the return visit to The Black Sheep on June 10, joined by fellow Denver hip-hop act 2MX2 and Fort Collins’ Qbala.
