The Nicotine Fits are all around you.
By day, they are indistinguishable from any other working-class 20-somethings they lay your carpet, stock your retailers and handle your waste. But by night, they remove the blue collars and answer their calling as Colorado Springs' purveyors of frenzied rock, in the earsplitting tradition of Radio Birdman and The Stooges.
Their self-released debut EP, Like the Curse, drops Thursday and, come fall, they'll be touring the West Coast. It'll place the Fits right into the proverbial deep end; and, whether they sink or swim, in a few weeks, it'll be too late to say you knew them when.
"Our album is kind of a reflection of how we play live: raw and hard and loud," says guitarist Nick Santa Maria.
"We" has been a work in progress the Fits have gone through various name and lineup changes before settling on the current manifestation.
The future is equally nebulous, but the Fits are hoping to turn a spark into a blaze, leaving a handful of clock-punching vacancies in their wake. Don't quit your day job? We'll see.
