Three musicians from the Mormon republic of Utah who worship at the altar of early Melvins and Eyehategod, The Ditch And The Delta have toiled away for the last few years, digging through the dirt of sludge-rock excess in relative obscurity. That could change with their recent signing to Prosthetic Records, the venerable metal label that gave us the first two Lamb of God albums as well as more recent releases by Gojira, Skeletonwitch, and former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.
The label will be releasing the band’s Hives in Decline
full-length early next month. Engineered by SubRosa’s Andy Patterson, the album places the guttural vocals and pentatonic riffs of jazz composition major Elliot Secrist front and center. The group also gets a big lead guitar assist from fellow Salt Lake denizen Gentry Densley — of Eagle Twin and Iceburn fame — on the jaunty pre-release single “Fuck on Asphalt,” a practice that’s rarely, if ever, recommended.
