The 2002/2003 Independence Community Fund campaign is now underway. We are currently accepting applications from innovative and entrepreneurial nonprofits seeking to launch or nurture community-building projects in the Pikes Peak region. If our 26-member Community Board selects your project, you'll receive significant publicity from the Independent and our media partners as well as be eligible for matching challenge cash grants from area businesses and foundations.
Application information is on page 5 of this week's paper. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. Selected organizations will be announced in late September and cash awards will be made next April in conjunction with our 2003 Community Building Legacy Award ceremony.
For more information on applying to the Fund, please join us at an informal question-and-answer session on Thurs., Aug. 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Community Room at Penrose Public Library, 20 N. Cascade.
We are also seeking civic, business and foundation partners to provide cash or in-kind services to the recipient projects. Nonprofits, as well as local businesses and foundations are invited to attend the Aug. 22 session.
