Things to chew on while you're listening to today's 2:30 p.m. performance by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and conductor Josep Caballe-Domenech of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Pathétique: While creating the music, the composer wrote, "I believe it comes into being as the best of my works"; it was first performed in Saint Petersburg on Oct. 28, 1893, nine days before Tchaikovsky's death at age 53 from cholera; and the symphony was dedicated to the composer's nephew (and much younger lover) Vladimir Davydov, whom he called Bob.
