What are the worst and best parts of summer? This is a dry, arid environment, and sometimes we abuse our water privileges. The greatest thing is the diversity of the weather. It's dry, but we get some rain now and then, and a little bit of coolness.
Where do you take summer visitors? Helen Hunt Falls, the Front Range and maybe down south, to the Ouray area.
What's the best spot to get away from it all? Any number of places, if you're willing to get up early enough and get after it. One is Blodgett Peak.
Are you going to garden this summer? No. The deer will eat it.
Are tourists a blessing or a curse? At first, I disliked tourism. It meant more people and congestion. But it's pleasant to have diverse groups of people meet.
What's the best thing about summer? Being from California, I'm ready for some sunshine, warm weather and green.
What's your best summertime memory? Entire days at the ocean with no responsibilities.
What have you promised yourself you'll do this summer? We home-school our kids, so maybe some field trips to outdoor places.
Are you going to garden this summer? No, we're moving. Next year, though, we're planning to have a greenhouse and to try to move things grown in it to a garden, and see if we can get anything to produce.
Are tourists a blessing or a curse? A blessing. It's good for our economy, and I love company. And before I became a resident, I always thought of Colorado as a tourist destination and beautiful place. And, besides, they go home.
What's worst and best about summer? The best thing is access to all the mountains, being able to hike and off-road without snow. The worst thing is the daily thunderstorms.
What's your best summer memory? Spending whole summers at the beach back in San Diego.
Where do you take summer visitors? Overnight camping and hiking in the Collegiate range.
What's the best summertime spot to get away from it all? Lake City, down near Telluride in the San Juans. It's this sleepy little town that's a ton of fun in the summer.
Are tourists a blessing or a curse? A blessing. They bring revenue to the city, and they don't really bring any problems.
