Comedy & Improv

Steven Wright

When: Sun., Sept. 14, 7 p.m. 2014

Though my generation's exposure to inexplicable, deadpan comedy came via the brilliant bumbler Mitch Hedberg, who died from a drug overdose in 2005, the progenitor who brought it to the masses, and who continues to own the style, is Steven Wright. The Academy Award-winning comedian was launched to stardom by Johnny Carson and has continued near the top in one way or another since. (Cameos run from the lead-in to the cop-torture scene in Reservoir Dogs, to Louie.) Partake of Wright's bizarre one-liners — sample: "All those who believe in psychokinesis, raise my hand" — at 7 tonight at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave., pikespeakcenter.com). Tickets start at $27. Bryce Crawford

Price: $27-$33
