"Social Innovation in Afghanistan: The Worst Place in the World to be a Woman"

When: Wed., Dec. 2, 7-9 p.m. 2015

Each day, thousands of female cyclists across the United States put on their helmets and pedal off to their destinations, free to travel wherever their wheels will carry them. It is a simple freedom that, unfortunately, is not available to women in countries such as Afghanistan, where societal taboos prevent women from riding bicycles, restricting their mobility, their access to education and their ability to better their families. Tonight at 7 p.m., Innovation@CC (902 N. Cascade Ave., 389-7083) welcomes activist, mountain biker and National Geographic's 2013 Adventurer of the Year Shannon Galpin as she shares her quest to help the women of Afghanistan through her non-profit, Mountain2Mountain. She will share powerful stories of incredible Afghan women and their heroic work to push back against an oppressive culture and create new opportunities in their country.
