The natural beauty of Colorado has inspired many an artist. Professional and amateur photographers flock to the Garden of the Gods or capture the image of the Air Force Academy Chapel; some have found moments of everyday life to be just as powerful. (For more about a hidden gem among Front Range photographers, see the cover story, starting on page 13 about Pueblo photographer John Suhay.)

Diane Olson - - Judicial assistant - - East Side - - What is the most striking photograph of Colorado - or Colorado Springs that you've seen? Pikes Peak. - - What was so moving about this picture? A - friend of mine had taken it. It was kind of far off, and he - caught it as the sun was like right behind it. And it was - like a halo was hanging there on top of the peak. It was - perfect. - - What role does photography play in public life - today? It plays a large role and sometimes a bad - one. I was just reading in another magazine about how - people are doing stuff with photographs, making things - look bad where it's not really bad. They did something - with photographs of the Iraq war, where they - interchanged them with other photographs to make it - look like our guys were doing something that they - weren't. With as much that's going on in Iraq, we don't - need bad publicity. And when you get people - interchanging stuff and making it look bad, it makes - things even worse.
