Chain rings and wings

• Because America will seemingly never have enough burger options, look for the opening of a Jake's Wayback Burgers ( franchise at 4492 Austin Bluffs Pkwy. sometime around early December, tentatively. The Delaware-born, Connecticut-based chain sports around 40 restaurants, currently all east of the Mississippi.

New Colorado Springs proprietor Timothy Pascoe discovered the chain on the Internet while looking for a franchise to open; he'd been laid off after 18 years with AAA in July 2008, and was looking to "control [his] own destiny," he says. He made a trip to a location out east, was pleased with the food he sampled, and began the franchise agreement process more than a year ago.

"I like that they are more modern — you can order and pay online," he says. "I thought they had the best onion rings, and the burgers are 1/3 of a pound instead of a quarter of a pound, and they have fresh, never-frozen patties."

Jake's also serves turkey and veggie burgers and a variety of shakes, and Pascoe says it's a family-oriented outfit, where children under 12 eat free. "It's not quite fast food," he adds. "We take a little longer to cook your food." After getting established, Pascoe says, he'll aim to add a delivery option that's rare in the burger world.

Buffalo Wild Wings ( will open its second Colorado Springs location at 2905 Geyser Drive at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25. To "celebrate the new opening" (read: create buzz-worthy pandemonium), the chain outfit will give the first 100 people in line vouchers for "free wings for a year" (read: a coupon book with 52 vouchers for six free wings).

À la carte

After a roughly five-year hiatus, It's All Good Soul Food Restaurant ( has reopened in its original location at 3117 S. Academy Blvd., under original owner Sheryl Burns. Dessert options include sweet potato pie and red velvet cake. IAG offers lunch and dinner hours, Tuesday through Saturday.

Pikes Peak Brewing Co. ( announced last Friday that it has selected a location: 1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive in Monument. The outfit anticipates a spring 2011 opening.
