Back in March, I reported sub chain Jimmy John's was poised to open several stores across the Springs, including one at 10 S. Tejon St. Much as with the abundance of Middle Eastern eats in the Falafel District, I pointed out the surprising new concentration of sub shops downtown. Jimmy John's pitch to stand apart involved "freaky fast" subs made in 30 seconds.
A co-worker has grown fond of the shop and reports it's been quite busy. He also notes employees' greetings are "a little more boisterous than necessary." We suppose the shtick's akin to being sung to for tips at Cold Stone Creamery; hey, some people dig it.
As for speed, he confirms they're quick.
"So really 30 seconds?"
"Well, certainly not 30 consecutive seconds."
Tap that cask
Bristol Brewing Co. (1647 S. Tejon St.) continues its ever-abundant production of specialty craft beers this month with IPA cask ale tappings on July 12, 19 and 26. According to Bristol "Beerocrat" Laura Long, these beers are usually gone by day's end.
July 18 brings the release of the Cheyenne Cañon Pion Nut Brown Ale, a charity beer for the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, and July 29 the next Skull 'n Bones series tapping (Belgian sour ales, which garnered a silver at last year's Great American Beer Festival). Call 633-2555.
Old Colorado City welcomed Deb's Coffee House last month to 2 S. 25th St. According to co-owner (and Deb's husband) Bill Wallbaum, the shop serves Umpire Estate coffee distributed by the local Colorado Coffee Merchants, in addition to deli sandwiches and salads. As for street cred: Deb managed Espresso News inside The Broadmoor for 13 years. Call 630-5100.
