The Warehouse Restaurant (25 W. Cimarron St.), now two months into the ownership of former Briarhurst Manor chef Lawrence "Chip" Johnson, will host its IRC (Independent Restaurant Cooperative) Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. For $50, not including tax and gratuity, you get five courses of food paired with five wines. Johnson says the evening's menu will essentially fuse The Warehouse's future direction and his past Colorado product experience.

A teaser: bison carpaccio with melon; smoked trout with salmon caviar and a Colorado vodka sour cream sauce; pork double chop with orange-pumpkin pure; hazelnut buttercream-stuffed Colorado apricots. Um ... yeah. Call 475-8880 for reservations or visit for more on dining locally.

Backyard bliss

Help support the Peak to Plains Alliance by partaking in a Local Harvest Dinner at The Margarita at PineCreek (7350 Pine Creek Road) from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. A hundred bucks, including tax and tip, buys appetizers and "at least" five courses, paired with Reeder Mesa Vineyard wines and Bristol beers. As part of its mission to market and educate on locally grown food, the alliance will encourage guests to meet local farmers and ranchers on hand. Cork dorks unite!

Heads-up, all you tannin-suckers: The 16th annual Colorado Mountain Winefest pretty much the most awesome annual wine event in the state is coming up from Sept. 13-16, in Palisade.

More than 250 wines from 43 wineries will be popped, poured and sipped. Wine tours, seminars, chef demos, a grape stomp, winemakers' dinners and special tastings (like the Enstrom's-chocolates-and-wine tasting) are available alongside music performances and much more.
