Second Annual Shades of Brown: A Celebration of the African Diaspora

When: Sat., June 1, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 2013

To those who now live somewhere other than where they were born — particularly somewhere half a world away with separate languages and culture — the celebration of one's homeland makes for quite the special occasion. Trends of Africa and Alterations (3119 S. Academy Blvd., 591-0810) knows just how to create such a festivity with its second annual Shades of Brown, a celebration of the African diaspora, from 10 to 6 today. Entry is free to enjoy craft activities and storytelling for kids, African drumming and music by Tony Exum Jr., the Phat Horn Doctors and others. The only thing you'll have to pay for is the African and Caribbean food. — Matthew Schniper
