Rupa & the April Fishes

When: Mon., Aug. 9, 7 p.m. 2010

This summer's free World Music Series concludes at 7 this evening on Colorado College's Armstrong Quad (14 E. Cache la Poudre St., with a performance by San Francisco-based Rupa and the April Fishes. A note on their MySpace page says the troupe plays "global agit-pop," and their website refers to "French nouvelle vague" and "Gypsy swing" in part. After sampling a number of their tunes — some sung in English, others in Spanish and French — I also picked up elements of folk, ska and Klezmer, and even a touch of haunting Irish balladry. Let's just call it weirdly awesome. Head into Armstrong Hall in the event of rain. — Matthew Schniper
