Running with Scissors

When: Tue., Aug. 16, 5-7 p.m. 2016

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies are all well and good, but generally the fun ends after a few speeches and a single snip. Not so today at the Manitou Art Center. True to form, the organization is going big with its event, Running with Scissors. Each attendee will be given a pair of plastic scissors, then they'll "race along cascading ceremonies" at multiple stations to commemorate a few new additions to the MAC space. Among them: a new "Classroom for Creativity," the building's recently installed Tesla car charging station, a new photography studio and darkroom, plus the building's much-anticipated, El Mac- and Fuse-created mural. Phew! In honor of all these additions, there will be food, cocktails and live music. The event starts with a reception for the mural led by Mayor Nicole Nicoletta, so don't miss it. 5 to 7 p.m. The Manitou Art Center, 513-515 Manitou Ave., free to attend, 685-1861, — Alissa Smith
