In early September, Manitou pizza standard Ruffrano’s opened its third location, tucked into the same increasingly happenin’ complex as La Cava and Smiling Toad Brewery. And by all accounts, it’s offering the same pizza, salad and garlic knots fans can get at the other two locations in town. We augment the slice, salad and drink ($9.99) special with garlic knots ($2.50/three), not knowing that our Greek salad comes with a garlic knot atop. Well, live and learn.

Those garlic knots hit that perfect middle ground for garlic flavor: powerfully aromatic without that bite of raw garlic. We prefer garlic to HellFire knots, basically the same, but with house HellFire hot sauce. Seems, shockingly, that hot sauce doesn’t improve everything. It does, however, do well for our slice of HellFire pizza, rich and sharp with pepperoni, Italian sausage and cherry peppers. The side Greek salad’s fine, with plentiful olives, banana peppers and feta.
