Ron Jeremy's rock of shame

Porn star's in town again and this time, he ain't holding back

Make just one mention of porn icon Ron Jeremy's Circus of Shame show, and imaginations run wild about what this legend will actually be doing on stage.

Debauchery and nakedness come to mind as do thoughts of nipples, Astroglide, goats and fluffers. But, instead, this evening is more Howard Stern misfit-like fun than Boogie Nights: The Musical.

"I think a lot of people hear 'Ron Jeremy' and think they're going to see some kind of live sex show," says emcee Ryan Katz, who is better known as Fabian Kaelin, the host of MTV's Wrestling Society X. "There is obviously sexual content in the show, and the humor and jokes are sexually based, but at the same time, I think people are expecting total craziness and nudity."

And they'd be wrong?

"That's not what the show is about," Katz says. "It's pretty much a stand-up comedy show that also has some interactive games with the crowd."

As disappointing as that may be for some audience members, they can always look forward to the gregarious females in attendance who may take part in the banana-eating and orgasm sound-alike contests: "The crowd gets really into it, and sometimes the girls get really, really into it," says Katz.

This is actually Jeremy's second visit to the Springs in three months; he appeared at Shove Chapel in September to take part in "The Great Porn Debate" with XXX Church pastor Craig Gross. While not distinctly highbrow, that debate did appeal to a wider audience. For instance, there was no set of local punk musicians performing under the moniker "The Midgets of Insanity," as there will be at The Black Sheep.

"They're not actually midgets," Katz clarifies. "It's part of our Circus of Shame that we shamefully call things what they aren't."

Let's just hope we don't call Ron Jeremy's Circus of Shame a boring sausagefest.

"I have a feeling it's going to get pretty wild in Colorado Springs," Katz says. "I think it's wintertime, and everyone is getting a little bit uptight and wants to let loose."
