The start of a new year brings new hopes, new goals and usually new resolutions ... or maybe not so new. Do we make the same resolutions every year? And how many of them revolve around losing weight and getting in shape?

Have you made any resolutions for 2012? I want to go to college. I want to start a new life, and do something different.
Do you plan to join a gym this year? Yes, I'm planning on joining one with my cousin. I want to be healthier.
Have you ever gone to a gym before? Yes, I belonged to one, but I only went for about a week. It was hard to get there with my school schedule; I was just too busy.
Did you have any unpleasant experiences there? Yes, some of the people were cranky, like they were on steroids or something. They got really territorial if you were on their machine.

Have you made any New Year's resolutions? We were talking about it last night, that maybe it should be to laugh more, even if we have to fake it.
Why? Because it makes you feel better, even if it's forced laughter.
What about exercise? Exercise and fitness go along with laughing. They all make you feel better. Working at a rock-climbing gym helps. I even go in there when I'm not working. It's a good hang-out spot.
Have you ever joined a typical gym? No, I'm not that interested in running on a treadmill. I'd rather be outdoors.
Do you know many people who've resolved to lose weight this year? No, not to lose weight, but I know some who want to stop smoking and stop eating fast food.
What comes to mind when you hear the words "locker room"? North Middle School; I went to school there. It was good to be just with the guys, instead of having coed P.E. like we did in elementary school.

Did you make any resolutions? I thought about it, but nothing happened. I kept thinking about other things ... like what my theme will be. Last year's theme was "momentum." I haven't decided on this year's theme yet.
Will part of it include joining a gym? No, the last time I joined a gym was about 20 years ago, just to do aerobics. I didn't like to go indoors to exercise because it seemed forced. Outside is better; today is beautiful.
Do you know many people who want to try to lose weight this year? Yes, they always talk about it, but after the first couple of weeks in January they forget about it.
What's your favorite way to exercise? Climbing the incline — it's the best. I usually do it once a week in the summer. You get a great feeling when you reach the top.
