A lot of people have been inspired by the Trump presidency to read 1984. But I think Orwell's Animal Farm hits the situation closer, if you look at the horse as being the American middle class who built the farm that made the pigs rich. The promise was that the horse would be rewarded for his hard work with a piece of the pie and a comfy retirement. But when he is old and worn out, it's more cost-effective to send him to the glue factory. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are our promise, and the Trump budget is our glue factory.
