Dear Diana Belles: You need to go back to school, as slavery may have not been the thrust of that senseless war but the South's desire to leave the Union and Constitution was ("Rebel yell," Letters, May 31)! States rights then and now are important, but the Union is the law. You broke your promise and then wanted a war and got it and lost it. You go ahead and yell about your flag and memorials to a terrible time in history. The Constitution says you have that right. But put the other stuff in a museum and let's all move on. Thank God you lost the war; that's what most of us are thankful for.
