Reader: Sorry, Canada

I am writing to apologize to the people of Canada for the crude, bigoted, xenophobic, misogynist, homophobic, fascist, impolite and uncivilized behavior of the President of the United States before, during and after his G-7 trip to your great country. You should be glad he left early. After all, he will be in an even worse mindset not having a Trump Tower to stay at in Singapore — and then return to us, where we are stuck with him for 2 years, 7 months, 1 week, 5 days, 6 hours and 14 minutes (at this writing).

Unfortunately, he is supported by the same class of people who not only accept, but promulgate this type of despicable behavior, while at the same time they are helping him destroy democracy in the U.S. I apologize for their behavior as well.

You are fortunate to have a delightful country with great resources, vistas and culture — but most of all amazing people! Indeed, you are No. 1 in my book!

But I must tell you that you aren't No. 1 in gun ownership — WE ARE, and guns are the third-leading cause of death for U.S. children. We're also No. 1 in the number of prisoners we incarcerate, No. 4 in income disparity, No. 14 in education, No. 115 in linguistic diversity, No. 19 in national satisfaction, No. 1 in obesity, and No. 44 in health care efficiency. (Really!)

I also specifically apologize to your Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau. You can be proud of him and how he conducts himself even in the face of impolite and uncivilized conduct. Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister.

Lastly, I want you to know that the vast majority of people in the U.S. cherish and value our long and storied history and friendship. (And by the way, we know you didn't burn down the White House.)
