Reader: l have the right not be shot to death

I have no choice but to respond to Don McCullen's letter (Letters, Nov. 8) defending the supreme rights of guns, given by his god, that overrides the inalienable rights of the people to life or to not be gunned down by a hateful Republican! I point out that the Second Amendment states "a well regulated militia," not just Republicans who must have the most lethal guns and biggest magazines on our planet.

No one needs all that crap! I can, however, understand a reasonable citizen owning something for hunting (not an assault weapon), something to protect the home (maybe a shotgun), and a short-distance weapon to keep varmints outta the livestock.

We don't need a bunch of wild idiots gearing up to gun down everyone else! Guns need to be regulated, and carefully. Now I bring your attention to the Ninth Amendment: "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights, shall not be considered to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

This includes the right not to be shot to death by someone who thinks guns have supreme rights over and above everything else!
