Purple mountain majesties Last week, City Council obliterated the name "Confluence Park," opting to rename the 8-month-old expanse of downtown greenery sandwiched between the highway, the train tracks and the power plant "America the Beautiful Park." Two days after the new name was announced, plenty of people were enjoying what previously had been a nearly empty park. (For more, check out this week's cover story beginning on page 16.)

Amber Watkins - - Downtown - - Nurse - - Is this park aptly named? Well, that sounds a - little corny. I'm patriotic and everything, too, but this was - part of the Confluence Park vision. And I don't actually - happen to see a really big American flag anywhere in - sight. - - What would you have named it? What, - "Confluence Park" was no longer appropriate? Was there - a reason to change it? As long as it wasn't "Bush." - - How often do you come here? We've come here - every day for the last week. - - What do you think of the location? I think it - was a fabulous use of some land that probably would - just have been an industrial parking lot otherwise.
