Such was the case when I was assigned to photograph Distillery 291. Owner Michael Myers’ Colorado Rye Whiskey just won the World’s Best Rye at Whisky Magazine’s international competition in London.
It’s kind of a big deal.
But this was a pressure-packed assignment for another reason. Before founding his award-winning distillery, Myers was a well-known and highly regarded fashion photographer.
Right away I knew why the Indy called me. Like most photographers, Myers wouldn't have a lot of patience to have his photo taken and I wouldn't have a lot time to make a great picture of him.
I made certain to come early and scout the distillery for possible locations. I found three great spots to take his picture. When he arrived at work, I was ready.
In 20 minutes I finished his portrait and created a nice portfolio of pictures of the distillery, the award winning Colorado Rye Whiskey and some fun images of Myers' staff.
It was a great shoot and sadly the paper wasn’t able to use many of the photographs that I made. Fortunately, for me, I have this blog to show them.
Because the distillery has an old world, steampunk feel I toned these images to my liking using my favorite suite of presets, Analog Effex Pro 2. Enjoy!
