es, Michael David Cummings, aka Spider One, is still Rob Zombie’s younger brother. And yes, Powerman 5000 does look and act like the Warped Tour never ended. But that, along with their tireless sense of humor, is part of their charm. Cummings insists his band has always been more Devo than Dio, a claim that, while not necessarily true, is as clever as anything on the group’s most recent album New Wave
. The single “David Fucking Bowie” sounds a lot like Billy Idol trying to sound a lot like David Bowie, which was never a good thing to begin with. The rest sounds like Powerman 5000 trying to be a nu metal band, which is pretty much what they’ve been doing since their late-‘90s heyday. That said, the band has stayed the course for nearly a dozen albums and countless tours — neither of which is an easy thing to do — so more power to them.
