Poetry Reading

When: Sat., March 19, 7-8 p.m. 2016

It's tough to make it as a poet these days. As the great early-20th-century humorist Don Marquis once said, "Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo." So when poets garner national attention, you know they're at the top of their game. Two such poets, Melissa Dickey and Sasha Steensen, will be reading selections of their work tonight at Mountain Fold Books, and you won't want to miss the chance to meet them. Dickey is touring to promote her newest volume, Dragons, which explores everyday images — like poetic photography. Steensen, a professor at Colorado State University and poetry editor for the Colorado Review, writes a different kind of poem, research-based and often historical. There will be plenty of sustenance for the brain, whether you're a writer or a listener. 7 p.m. 121 E. Costilla St., free, mountainfoldbooks.org, 375-3358. — Alissa Smith
