Aimee Mann with Adam Levy, guitarist for The Honeydogs Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street, Boulder Friday, Jan. 27, 8 p.m. $25 general admission, $31 reserved; call 303/786-7030 or visit bouldertheater.com for tickets.
Aimee Mann's extensive work on the Magnolia soundtrack showcased her sensitive, intricate, piano-based music. Before that unlikely breakthrough, she spent the '80s singing in pop-rock outfit 'Til Tuesday, and released two solo albums during the '90s. Since the Magnolia soundtrack (1999), she's released three albums. The most recent, The Forgotten Arm (named for what Mann recently learned while training in boxing: the knockout punch always comes as a surprise), is a concept album about two people who fall in love in the '70s. It recently earned a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package.
Her show at the Boulder Theater on Friday will be an intimate acoustic performance of guitar, bass and piano, promising tunes from the early and more recent annals of the prolific Mann library.
