Colorado Springs vs. Denver, featuring The Photo Atlas, Holiday Run, Abracastabya and Drop Dead, Gorgeous Friday, Jan. 13, 8 p.m. The Black Sheep, 2106 E. Platte Ave., 227-7625 $5-$7.
Scene kids love them some competition. Competition over whose hair is better, pants are tighter, playlist is obscurer. If you're up on the scene, you know that Denver kids are sick of screamo, emo, hard- and metalcore grumpiness and that they've moved on to -- or back to -- dance music, like that of The Photo Atlas (pictured).
At the CSpittle vs. Dtown showdown this Friday, I predict The Photo Atlas' catchy little ditties will prevail over Drop Dead, Gorgeous (Denver hardcore) and the Springs' Holiday Run and Abracastabya.
Here's why: (1) Scene girls are excited to wear more neon. (2) The Springs will realize they're so over depressing music, too. (3) Winning a live competition is all about stimulating endorphins and getting kids on their feet. (The word "dance" appears six times on The Photo Atlas' myspace page. Face.)
