The Tweed Merchants Bennys Lounge, 517 W. Colorado Ave., 634-9309 Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 p.m. $2 Tonys, 311 N. Tejon St., 228-6566 Wednesday, Nov. 23, 9:30 p.m. no cover.
The Tweed Merchants are all about tone -- making sure their music actually sounds good. Their name, even, is derived from "tweed amps," which vintage blues players use to preserve the rich sounds of their instruments.
A handful of musicians who met at local blues jams, The Tweed Merchants feature male and female vocalists and have been gigging together since December. They play classic electric blues in the tradition of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, to name a few. Their mix of covers and originals is that rare sort of cozy live blues that you can get up and dance to, or enjoy as lively background music to a conversation.
The Tweed Merchants create a celebratory atmosphere in which to forget your troubles. Experience their live show this week at Benny's on Saturday or at Tony's on Wednesday.
