In-store appearance at Independent Records and Video, 3030 E. Platte Ave.
Fri., April 2 at 6 p.m.
Hip-hop artist and activist Immortal Technique will be making a free, last-minute appearance at Independent Records on Friday. It's also rumored, though unconfirmed, that he will be joining Black Pegasus, FOS, Accumen1 and others later in the evening at 32 Bleu (32 S. Tejon St., 955-5664).
Born in Peru and raised in Harlem, Technique struggled fiercely against the trappings of urban poverty to graduate high school and go on to college at Penn State. But during his sophomore year, a skirmish with a white student landed him in jail for reasons he believed to be purely race driven.
During his year in jail, Technique began to turn his experiences into rhymes that were political, straightforward and entertaining all at once -- qualities that quickly paid off when he left prison and began to compete in MC battles. After honing his skills on the battle circuit, he turned his skills to songwriting and has since released two independent albums: Revolutionary Vols. 1 and 2.
If you like your edutainment in the vein of Public Enemy, The Roots, or Blackalicious, you'll want to come check out this battle-tested MC.
