Dexter Grove and Porcelain Handjive
Underground Nightclub, 130 E. Kiowa St.
Thursday, Feb. 12 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Self-described "acid folk" duo Dexter Grove, aka Steve Drizos on congas and Charley Orlando on guitar, will unleash their wicked chemical twang on Colorado Springs tonight. These fellows from upstate New York have somehow endured the national coffeehouse and bar circuit since 1994 and have not grown tired of it. Their debut album, 420, was followed by a move to Boulder, some mind-numbing 1,500 tour dates, and three more albums: Alive and Well at the Gates of Eden, True (which is also the title of an album by Spandau Ballet, unironically, as it were), and Color Me Naked. If you like The String Cheese Incident, Phish, Leftover Salmon or Quiet Riot, you'll love these guys. Heading off the show is local band Porcelain Handjive, which has reportedly been drawing big crowds at house performances and is now hitting the club scene.
