If pop common sense translated into critical wisdom, latter-day n-metallurgists Linkin Park would be considered, without question, a great band. Fourteen million units (of their first album, Hybrid Theory), after all, can't be wrong! Perhaps it's the fact that they cross over into at least three popular music genres -- rap, metal and general "rock" -- in the youth radio market that makes them so omni-appealing. Perhaps it is their ability to channel the generic angst of a generation sold on feeling it as a part of their market demographic conditioning. Perhaps they really are great. In any case, the critics don't matter when your pocket's gettin' fatter. With their sophomore release Meteora having only achieved the triple-platinum mark, the n crew has cranked up the hype express one more time and joined with the likes of Christian rockers P.O.D. to give the people what they want. You, too, can help an industry in need for a mere $34.50 a head.
