It's pretty weak for a critic to spend a whole lot of time dallying with name-dropping, musical family trees and elucidations of asinine cross-pollination contrivances. That said, these guys sound almost exactly like Neil Young. Led by Zachary Gresham, the songs even take on the surreal qualities of Young's dreamlike lyrics that made ditties like "Last Trip to Tulsa" so enduringly memorable. So the music is good, rootsy, alt-rock and derivative all at once. I mean, sounding like Neil Young is a good thing, except for the fact they aren't Neil Young. But then again, Neil Young never comes to Colorado Springs. Their album Clemency (2001) will undoubtedly be a jumping-off point for this obviously talented group who needn't spend their time in the shadow of Mr. Shakey.
