You know you've found something worthwhile when you're humming along to the second track of an album just torn from its cellophane packaging. Any fan of modern acoustic folk will appreciate the simple yet effectively eloquent chording on Paperdoll Spokesman, Terry Everett Quiett's debut release on S3 records.

Quiett, a mid-20-ish Colorado native with a voice like a relaxed Jon Bon Jovi, sounds like someone who has spent years hanging out on Boulder's Pearl Street mall. Influences such as Shawn Colvin, Greg Brown and other "crossover" Red Rocks favorites resonate throughout the coffeehouse-style music, while funk, Middle-Eastern chants and psychedelia pepper the album.

Actually a native of sleepy Divide, Colo., the singer has captured the relaxed attitude of high country Coloradoans in his original compositions, with thoughtful lyrics and easily paced rhythms. Quiett is an accomplished guitar player, whose knowledge of the instrument translates into well-placed notes and timing that aid in expressing the passionate emotions of songs about love, money, nature, injustice and all of the other pre-req subjects in the folk genre.

Quiett will be playing at the Briargate Barnes & Noble before returning to his new hometown in Kansas. Call 266-9960 to find out more.
