The hardworking hip-hop crews F.O.S. and Accumen have opened a door for all local musicians who aspire to see their records glistening in record stores across the lands.
Staying true to the tradition of the underground musicians since the punk-indie revolution of the '70's, the two groups decided to create their own labels and release their own records. While listeners have come to expect and appreciate the lo-fi production quality of many do-it-yourself releases, Accumen and F.O.S. have collaborated with Jason Williamson at Illynoise Studios in Colorado Springs to create professionally produced albums over which they were able to retain complete creative control.
"We've always been doing everything ourselves, so that was the next logical step," said Rob Houston (aka Black Pegasus) from F.O.S.
For F.O.S., the release of their album is the culmination of a surge in momentum that has included two appearances at Austin, Texas' famed music festival South by Southwest. They also recently opened for Oakland-based Blackalicious in Boulder.
F.O.S.'s Focus on Skillz and Accumen's self-titled album are now available at Independent Records and Mole 33 Records.
