Playing Around: Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley
  • Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley is going to be a star. We're talking a Randy Travis--Clint Black--George Strait--sized star. He has everything you'd ever want in a country star: a strong jaw, crisp Stetson, deep and soulful hazel eyes, tight jeans, a low-blowin' sexy bass voice and a repertoire that will make you dance like a fool and cry like a baby. In fact, at least two car accidents in Texas alone have been attributed to blurred vision, caused by drivers getting caught up in Paisley's hit song, "He Didn't Have to Be." The song is about a new father who, looking back, hopes he can be half the father his stepfather "didn't have to be." You see? A star.

Paisley's sentimentalism and handsome Southern looks aren't the only thing he has going for him. He's also busy pleasing traditional country fans with his talented guitar work reminiscent of Chet Atkins and Les Paul. Not many country artists can back up their pretty lyrics and heartfelt crooning with little more than a contribution to the rhythm section, but Paisley learned early the benefits of playing his own music. Taught by a pro at age eight, the musician quickly decided that playing parts of a song while some other guy played fills wasn't where it was at, and took it upon himself to learn it all.

Brad Paisely will be appearing at Cowboy's Thursday night with his beautiful '68 Fender Telecaster and a list of songs destined for the top of the charts. Tickets are $12 to $16. Catch him while you can.
