Playing Around: Blues in the Park

Smokin' Joe & the Mighty Burners play on June 6
  • Smokin' Joe & the Mighty Burners play on June 6

It may be a little-known fact -- God knows why -- but this town is teeming with really good blues musicians. Overrun, almost. And like lemmings, they will all be swarming to the Pikes Peak Bluesfest in July, but in the meantime, something has to be done to keep them occupied. (Leave a bluesman sitting out in the summer sun with nothing to do, and it isn't pretty. For example, look at Huey Lewis. He used to play harp, but now ... it's just sad.)

So, the Bluesfest promoters have graciously set up playdates for local and national acts to perform, free, every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Acacia Park. Here's the schedule -- for more info on the Bluesfest, see The Listings on page 40. Go, dance, save the musicians.
