Plate & Palettes

When: Sun., Oct. 16, 1-5 p.m. 2011

Granted, for many orange-blooded sports followers out there, today will feel weird because it's the Denver Broncos' one week off in the 2011 season. So without football as an excuse, you have no reason not to spend this afternoon at Old Colorado City's Plates and Palettes event, benefiting the Army's Wounded Warrior program that offers art therapy to soldiers dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. The concept should appeal to anyone: For $15 a person (order at shopoldcoloradocity.com/content.php?id=104), from 1 to 5 p.m. you can visit all of the OCC art galleries, where you can meet Army combat soldiers who will be showing their own art, and you can place bids on that work. Each gallery also will be serving food and wine from OCC eating establishments, with musicians performing as well. Buy your tickets at the website, pick them up at will-call — and forget that football even exists. — Ralph Routon
