Pikes Peak Brewing Co. expands to California with a new IPA

  • Griffin Swartzell
Recent news for Pikes Peak Brewing: Come mid-November, their beers will be distributed in California via the 146-location BevMo! chain. Californians will be able to buy six-packs of Gold Rush Belgian golden strong, Elephant Rock IPA, Devil’s Head Red and 38 Faces seasonal IPA. That last one wasn’t familiar to us, so we make for the brewery and pick up a growler ($20.92 with bottle).

When we drop by, 38 Faces comes with blood orange, though that will change seasonally. Generally, we’re pretty pleased. It’s a caramel-amber color, but the malt doesn’t add too much to the flavor. Rather, it’s all floral citrus atop a slightly bitter hop body with light sweetness. While on-site, we also try a taste of a limited collaboration with Trinity Brewing Co. called Menacing Trailmarker, a blackberry-heather saison. It’s pleasant, not too funky and, most importantly, a reminder to stop by the brewery and see what’s on tap besides the widely available flagship brews.
