Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon Run Fest

When: Thu., Aug. 18, 5-8 p.m. 2016

Colorado Springs is well known for our badass running community. We not only host races during the dead of winter and the blistering heat of summer, we even have a race that runs up a Fourteener. Yes, our runners once gazed upon all 14,115 feet of Pikes Peak and thought to themselves, "Yeah, I could probably run to the top of that." Then they decided in the 1950s to make it a marathon because scaling the mountain itself just wasn't enough. In addition to being badass, the community is welcoming; they embrace the plodding half-marathoners (me), the peppy 5Kers, the dabbling fun runners and the monster ultra-marathoners with equal enthusiasm. Want to meet these crazy kids and maybe make some new friends? Come out to the second annual Pikes Peak Run Fest tonight, a celebration of the camaraderie and love of the sport featuring local beer, live music, food trucks, local organizations and cool vendors. 5-8 p.m., Pioneers Museum, 215 S. Tejon St., free, — Bridgett Harris
