Rock Ledge Ranch to pork out

There weren't a whole lot of vegans among the pioneers in the Pikes Peak region during the1880s. Nor were there a whole lot of McDonald's or Howard's Pit Barbecues. So, when it came to eating pork, which you were more than likely to be doing, you were pretty well gonna be makin' your own bacon "From Oink to Oven." Hey, that's the name of the event this Saturday at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site (off 30th Street by the Garden of the Gods entrance) where historical actors-cum-trained pig butchers will do an educational demonstration featuring pork processing, sausage and soap making, and other ways of preparing for the winter la 1880s Pikes Peak area pioneers. Dress warmly and show up between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission to the Ranch is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, $1 for children from 6 to 12, and free for kids under 6. Call 578-6777.
